Founded in 2026, Feathers Over Fur was created to provide an outstanding upland hunting environment where hunters can build lasting bonds and create unforgettable memories with their four-legged friends. Open to the public from September 19th to April 15th our preserve provides prime native habitat, laid back hospitality and beautiful Appalachian scenery making it an ideal destination for guided pheasant, quail and chukar hunting.

At Feathers Over Fur, we want your experience to be relaxed, enjoyable, and unforgettable. Here’s what you can look forward to when you book a hunt with us:
• A Warm Welcome
Arrive early and enjoy fresh coffee before your hunt. Our team will greet you, answer any questions, and give a quick safety briefing.
• Beautiful, Well-Managed Habitat
You’ll hunt across several acres of diverse terrain—native grasses, oak savannas, and thickets—designed to create the perfect upland bird environment.
• Strong-Flying Birds
Our fields are stocked with pheasant, quail, and chukar, providing exciting flushes and great shooting opportunities for hunters and their dogs.
• Your Choice of Hunt Style
Prefer expert guidance? Book a guided hunt with experienced staff who know the preserve inside and out. Want a more independent adventure? Go self-guided and work your own dogs at your own pace.
• A Laid-Back, Friendly Atmosphere
We’re here to make your day in the field enjoyable, not rushed. Take your time, enjoy the company, and make great memories.
• Convenient Amenities
Between hunts, you’ll have access to restrooms, snacks, drinks, and a bird cleaning station with packaging supplies.
What You’ll Need
• A valid Virginia hunting license
• Your own shotgun and gear (or let us know if you need recommendations)
• Ammunition (nothing larger than #6 shot)
• A blaze orange clothing item (required for safety during your hunt)
• To sign a safety waiver and complete a brief safety briefing before your hunt
Shooting Sports at Feathers Over Fur
Five Stand and Trap
Five Stand is a condensed version of sporting clays. Consisting of 5 stations with 6 different traps. Each shooter is provided with five targets at each station, for a total of 25 targets.
Open year round on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 5pm. Open by appointment only Monday through Friday.
Cost: $10 per round or 40 cents per clay
